The research aims at the characterization of genetic factors that affect brain aging and related diseases with particular reference to dementia. The work is carried out in close relation to the clinical work that is usually carried out at Golgi and is linked to neuropathological investigations.

The studies include the genotypic characterization of the subjects with regard to known mutations and polymorphisms, screening of new candidate genes to influence physiological and pathological aging both positively and negatively and the analysis of some biological parameters. Genetic and biological studies in association with clinical data should define according to different parameters each patient. In addition, the planned investigations will be closely related to experimental studies aimed at the creation of new models for the development of finally effective therapeutic approaches.
